How to create a backup task in Kaspersky Total Security

Backup tasks are used for creating backup copies of files. Backup tasks are created using the wizard.

Specify the following settings when creating a backup task:

  • Files for which backup copies will be created
  • A storage where backup copies will be created
  • Backup task startup settings
  • Number of versions and the storage period of backup copies

If you are going to create a backup storage on the My Book (Western Digital) drive, format the drive to the NTFS file system before creating the backup task.

To create a backup task:

Step 1. Open Kaspersky Total Security.

Step 2. Click Backup and Restore.

Step 3. In the Backup and Restore window, click Select files to back up.

The backup task creation wizard will start.

Step 4. In the Create backup copies of files window, specify the files to back up.

You can select one of the following categories of files:

  • Create backup copies of specified file types:
    • All files from My Documents folder and from desktop
    • All pictures and photos
    • All movies and videos
    • All music files
  • Create backup copies of files from specified folders. The backup task will create the backup copies of all files from the folder or folders you have specified manually.

To view the list of files to back up, click the link with the number of files in the category you have selected.

To proceed, click Next.

Step 5. To select folders to back up:

  1. Click Add folder.
  2. In the Select folder to back up window, specify a folder to back up.
  3. Click OK.

To select specific files from a folder to back up, click the link with the number of files and select check boxes for the file files you would like to back up.

Step 6. Select the storage in which the backup copies will be created.

You can select a default backup storage on a local, network or removable drive, connect another storage or create a new storage (click Add network storage / Connect existing storage under the list of available storages) a or activate an online storage.

Step 7. Specify the schedule for running the backup task. Select the time period from the drop-down list. If you have selected a removable media as a backup storage, select the check box Run backup on connecting the removable drive.

Step 8. Copy the Restore Utility to the storage so that you will be able to restore files from it on a computer where Kaspersky Total Security is not installed. Click Next.

Step 9. Set a password to protect the files in the backup storage. Click Next.

Step 10. Specify the storage settings:

  • Set the number of versions of backup copies to store.
  • Set the storage period for versions of backup copies.

Step 11. Specify the name of the task and select or clear the check box Run backup upon wizard completion.

Click Next to confirm the creation of the backup task.

Wait until the storage is created and click Finish.

Step 12. When the wizard is completed, the created task will appear in the Backup and Restore window and the backup process will start.
