When you are activating Kaspersky Total Security with a renewal license code, the application searches your computer for a Kaspersky PURE 2.0 or a Kaspersky PURE 3.0 license. Then it takes an action depending on the result:

1. License has been found

If a license has been found, its details, along with the new activation code, are sent to Kaspersky Lab server. The activation server returns a 1 year's Kaspersky Total Security  license.

2. License not found

If no license has been found (for example, if you have never activated Kaspersky Total Security or Kaspersky PURE 3.0 with a commercial activation code on this computer), the Renew license window will appear.

  • Select the check box Enter the previous activation code, type your old activation code and click Next
    • If the code is a commercial activation code for Kaspersky Total Security or Kaspersky PURE version 3.0 or 2.0, the license details along with the new activation code are transferred to Kaspersky Lab server. The activation server returns a 1 year's Kaspersky Total Security  license.
    • If the code you have entered
      • does not refer to Kaspersky Total Security or Kaspersky PURE version 2.0 or 3.0;
      • covers less computers that the renewal code;
      • has been used for renewal;
      • has been entered incorrectly,

you will receive a notification.

  • Select the check box I agree to decrease license validity period by <x>%. License expiration date <date> and click Next. The application will send a request to Kaspersky Lab server. The server returns a Kaspersky Total Security license issued for the reduced term.

     Please note that the percentage of the license term reduction also depends on the activation edition.

The license term of a Kaspersky Total Security renewal license is less than 12 months

If the license term of your renewal license appears to be less than 12 months, then the application failed to find a previous license nor did you provide your old activation code. In this case, contact Kaspersky Lab Technical Support via the My Kaspersky service. In your request, give a detailed description of the issue and provide the number of your old license and the new renewal license code.  You can find information about how to use the service on the FAQ for My Kaspersky page.
