To scan suspicious objects for free, you can use Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal in the general access mode. Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal checks objects for threats and provides detailed results based on the information that was accumulated by Kaspersky over the years.

What is the difference between Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal and Kaspersky VirusDesk?

Compared to Kaspersky VirusDesk, the new Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal in the general access mode provides more options for checking suspicious objects. Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal allows you to:

  • Check files of bigger size — up to 256 MB. Kaspersky VirusDesk had a limit of 50 MB.
  • Check more types of objects: files, links, domains, IP addresses and hash sums of files. Kaspersky VirusDesk only allowed creating files and links.
  • Get more detailed results. Results of Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal check are described in detail below.

How to use Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal in the general access mode

To check:

  • A suspicious file:
    1. Open https://opentip.kaspersky.com/.
    2. Click Browse and select the file you would like to scan.
    3. Click Analyze.
  • A suspicious link, hash sum, domain or IP address:
    1. Open https://opentip.kaspersky.com/.
    2. Paste the object that you would like to check into the Hash, IP address, domain, or URL field.
    3. Click Look up.

How Kaspersky Threat Intelligence Portal checks submitted objects

Every submitted file is checked using the heuristic analysis, Urgent Detection System, and is run in Cloud Sandbox.

Also, information about files (and hash sums), links, domains, and IP addresses is received from the following sources:

  • Kaspersky Security Network
  • Botnet Tracking service
  • Proprietary web crawlers
  • Spam traps
  • APT research findings
  • Information from Kaspersky partners
