What does the “not-a-virus” prefix mean before an application’s name?

In the Threats and Exclusions window of the Additional section of the application settings, select the checkbox Detect other software that can be used by criminals to damage your computer or personal data. If the checkbox is selected, the computer may display the following information window after scanning:

Detection of an application with the not-a-virus prefix

Applications with the not-a-virus prefix are potentially malicious applications from the Riskware category. They may delete, block, modify or copy data on the computer or cause the computer to malfunction. We recommend removing such software.
