Applies to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 includes a special utility which allows creating a Rescue Disk. It is required when a computer is so damaged that the operating system or anti-virus solution fails to launch correctly.In such cases you can use the created Rescue Disk to detect and eliminate computer infections.
Rescue disk is a Linux-based .iso image which includes the following:
- system and configuration Linux files
- a set of utilities to diagnose the system
- a set of additional utilities (file manager etc.)
- Kaspersky Rescue Disk files
- anti-virus databases files
You can create the disk image (an .iso file) with up-to-date anti-virus databases and configuration files. A source image can be downloaded from Kaspersky Lab servers or copied from a local source.
If you purchased a box version of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011, you can use the disk with the application distributive as a Rescue Disk.
If you have downloaded Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2011 from the Kaspersky Lab web site, you can:
- Record to CD / DVD
- Record to USB flash drive
- Save the disk image to file on local or network drive
What to do before creating a Rescue Disk?
Before you record the Rescue Disk, perform the following actions:
- open the main application window
- in the left part of the main application window, go to the Tools tab
- in the right part of the main application window, click the Rescue Disk button

- If the Wizard has detected the previously created Rescue Disk in the folder:
- "Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP11\Data\Rdisk\" (for Windows XP)
- "ProgramData\Kaspersky Lab\AVP11\Data\Rdisk\" (for Windows Vista / 7),
- then check the box Use existing ISO image and click the Next button

- if the Rescue Disk was not detected, then select one of the following variants:
- Copy ISO image from local or network drive. Select this variant if you have the Rescue Disk image file or can download it from a networked folder
- Download ISO image from Kaspersky Lab server. If you selec this variant the latest image version will be downloaded from the Kaspersky Lab server. Make sure that the Internet connection is established on your computer.
- click the Next button

If you select the Copy ISO image from local or network drive variant, then you are required to specify the path to the file. In order to do so, click the Browse button and select the file. Once the path is specified click the Next button. The Wizard will download the Rescue Disk image
If you select the Download ISO image from Kaspersky Lab server variant, then the downlad process will start imediatelly after you click the Next button
- in the Updating disk image, click the Next button

- in the Recording data window, select the required action:
- Record to CD / DVD
- Record to USB flash drive
- Save the disk image to file on local or network drive.
Recording Rescue Disk to CD / DVD
- select the Record ro CD / DVD variant
- click the Next button

- select the recording drive from the drop-down list
- insert a CD / DVD to which you want to record the image. Click the Next button

- wait until the process is completed
- click the Finish button.

Recording Rescue Disk to USB flash drive
- select Record to USB flash drive
- click the Next button

- select the required USB device
Before recording Rescue Disk, delete all data from the USB drive and format it using standard Microsoft Windows tools.

- wait until the process is completed
- click the Finish button.

Saving the disk image to file on local or network drive
- select the Save the disk image to file on local or network drive variant
- click the Next button

- specify the path to save the file. In order to do so, click the Browse button and select the required folder.

- wait until the file is copied and then click the Finish button.
