What is Kaspersky URL Advisor

The URL scanning module, which is called Kaspersky URL Advisor, is managed by the Web Anti-Virus component from Kaspersky Small Office Security 2 for Personal Computer. This module checks if links located on the web page belong to the list of suspicious and phishing web addresses.

In Kaspersky Small Office Security 2 for Personal Computer this component can mark suspicious URLs only in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers. The module is built in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers as a plug-in, it is the button with the logotype of Kaspersky Lab and is located on the toolbars of the browsers.

If you do not see the icon in the browser toolbar, perform the following actions:

  1. Select Tools > Manage Add-ons in the browser.
  2. In the top part of the Manage Add-ons window in the drop-down list select Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer. 
  3. In the central part of the window highlight URLs check.
  4. In the Settings section select Enable.

  1. In the Add-on Status window click OK.

  1. the Manage Add-ons window click the OK button.
  2. Restart the browser.

The Kaspersky URL Advisor window can be opened by clicking the Kaspersky icon in the browser. You can specify the list of URLs to be scanned: on all web pages or on specified web pages.

  • If you select On all web pages, then you can create a list of trusted web addresses the content of which should not be scanned.

  • If you select the On selected web pages variant, then you can create a list of web addresses which should be scanned by the URL scanning module. All other web addresses will not be scanned.

How to enable the URL scanning module

In order to enable the URL scanning module, perform the following actions:

  1. open the main application window
  2. on the upper right hand corner of the window, click Settings
  3. on the upper part of the Settings window, select Protection
  4. on the left hand part of the window, select Web Anti-Virus
  5. on the right hand part of the Settings window in the Security level section, click the Settings... button
  6. on the Web Anti-Virus window in the Additional section, check the box Mark phishing and suspicious URLs in Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox
  7. on the Web Anti-Virus window, click OK
  8. on the Settings window, click OK
  9. close the main application window.
