How to block ads with Kaspersky for Windows
To block ads on your PC and protect your data and devices online, follow the instructions in this article.
Block banner ads on websites
To block banner ads, you must enable Anti-Banner:
- Click in the lower left corner of the Kaspersky for Windows main window.
To learn how to open the main application window, see this instruction.
- In the Privacy settings window, go to Anti-Banner.
- Click the switch to the enabled position and click Save.
- Click Confirm.
Block the installation of unwanted applications
During the installation of an application, you might not notice a series of check boxes besides additional applications that are installed by default. Should this be the case, you might accidentally install adware. To prevent adware being installed on your computer, enable Unwanted App Installation Blocker.
- In the Kaspersky for Windows main window, go to Privacy.
- In the Ad-free digital life subsection, navigate to the block Unwanted App Installation Blocker and click Turn on.
- Click Confirm.
Block data collection on websites
When you browse websites, their owners collect information about your activity in order to offer you targeted ads based on your preferences. To prevent websites from collecting your data, configure Private Browsing:
- In the Kaspersky for Windows main window, go to Privacy.
- In the Private Browsing block, click Turn on.
- Click Confirm.
Enable detection of software that can be used by criminals to damage your computer or personal data
Stalkerware detection is enabled in Kaspersky applications by default. These are legit applications can be used by criminals to steal your personal data and damage your computer. To ensure that the feature is enabled:
- In the Kaspersky for Windows main window, go to Privacy.
- Scroll down and find the Stalkerware Detection block. Make sure the feature is enabled and click in this exact block.
- Make sure the check box Detect other software that can be used by intruders to damage your computer or personal data is selected.
- If you checked the check box, click Save → Confirm.
Check websites for advertising
The Safe Browsing component is enabled in Kaspersky applications by default. It scans websites for viruses, phishing, crypto scams and other threats. Check if the component is enabled:
- Click in the Kaspersky for Windows main window.
- Go to the Security settings block.
- Make sure the Safe Browsing component is switched to the On status.
If the status is Off, enable Safe Browsing:
- Open the Safe Browsing component by clicking it.
- Click the switch to the enabled position and click Advanced Settings.
- Select the check box Check the web address against the database of wev addresses containing adware and click Save.
- Click Confirm.
When Safe Browsing is enabled, the application will alert you if you attempt to open an advertising website.
