Kaspersky Double VPN (also known as multi-hop) allows you to create a chain of two VPN servers located in different countries. This VPN server chaining method provides an extra layer of encryption that enhances security and privacy for your IP address.
Also, the Double VPN functionality allows you to connect to the desired VPN server through an intermediate server if you cannot connect to this VPN server directly.
Kaspersky Double VPN uses nested encryption: the tunnel between the client and the exit server goes inside the tunnel between the client and the intermediate server, which provides a double level of encryption between the client and the intermediate server. Both times, encryption is performed on the client side; data is not decrypted on the intermediate server. Therefore, the intermediate server does not have access to client traffic passing through it.
In some cases, enabling a Double VPN connection causes a slowdown because your traffic goes through two VPN servers located thousands of miles apart.
Double VPN uses the Catapult Hydra protocol to establish the connection. Make sure that the Catapult Hydra or Select automatically option is selected in the application settings. For instructions on how to select the protocol for Kaspersky VPN, see this article.
