Quarantine in Kaspersky Internet Security 2018
Upon detection of a file which is considered infected, Kaspersky Internet Security 2018 tries to disinfect it. If the file cannot be disinfected, Kaspersky Internet Security 2018 moves it to Quarantine.
Quarantine is a storage for files that are probably infected.
Files in the Quarantine folder cannot harm your computer.
By default, the files that cannot be disinfected by Kaspersky Internet Security 2018 are deleted. Copies of such files are preserved in the Quarantine folder. If you are sure the deleted file is safe, you restore it from there to the initial location.
How to restore or delete files from Quarantine
Quarantine allows to perform the following actions with the quarantined files:
- Restore files to their original location
- Delete files from Quarantine
- Open the initial location of the file
To restore or delete files moved to Quarantine:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Internet Security 2018, click More tools.
- If you have problems opening the application window, see this guide.
- Click Quarantine.
- In the Quarantine window, you can right-click a file and select an action from the shortcut menu. To clear the list, click the Delete all files button.
Location of the Quarantine folder
The files moved to Quarantine are stored in proprietary binary formats in the following folders:
- For Windows XP:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Kaspersky Lab\AVP18.0.0\QB
- For Windows Vista/7/8/8.1/10:
%PROGRAMDATA%\Kaspersky Lab\AVP18.0.0\QB
To open the folder:
- Enable Show hidden files and folders.
- Simultaneously press Win and E keys on your keyboard.
- Paste the copied path to the folder to the address line.
- Press Enter on the keyboard.
How to disable automatic deletion of malicious files
In the default mode, all files that cannot be disinfected are deleted. To change the actions on threat detection:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Internet Security 2018, click the gear button .

- In the General section, clear the checkbox Perform recommended actions automatically.
How to set actions to be taken on threat detection
To avoid choosing an action every time a threat is detected, specify an action for specific protection components:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Internet Security 2018, click the gear button .
- If you have problems opening the application window, see this guide.
- Select Scan.
- Expand the drop-down list Action on threat detection and select Disinfect.
- Go to Protection and select a component to modify its settings.
- Set up the following actions on threat detection:
- File Anti-Virus and Mail Anti-Virus. In the Action on threat detection drop-down menu, select Block or Disinfect.
- Web Anti-Virus. In the Action on threat detection drop-down menu, select Block.
- System Watcher. In the Application Privilege Control section, select Terminate the malware.
