Anti-virus databases

Anti-virus databases that contain descriptions of computer security threats that are known to Kaspersky Lab by the moment of release of the databases. Anti-virus database records make it possible to detect malicious code in scanned objects. Antivirus-databases are compiled by Kaspersky Lab specialists and are updated hourly.

Disinfection of objects

A method of processing infected objects that results in full or partial recovery of data. Not all infected objects can be disinfected.

File mask

Representation of a file name using wildcards. The standard wildcards used in file masks are * and ?, where * represents any number of any characters and ? stands for any single character.

Incremental scanning

Custom file scan During incremental scanning, the application scans only the files that have changed since the last scan.

Infected object

An object a segment of whose code fully matches a code segment of a known threat. Kaspersky Lab does not recommend using such objects.

Kaspersky Lab Update servers

Kaspersky Lab's HTTP servers from which Kaspersky Lab applications download database- and component updates.

License validity period

A time period during which you have access to the application features and rights to use additional services. The services you can use depend on the type of the license.

OLE object

An object attached to another file or embedded into another file through the use of the Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) technology. An example of an OLE object is a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet embedded into a Microsoft Office Word document.

Update

A function performed by a Kaspersky Lab application that enables it to keep computer protection up-to-date. During the update, an application downloads updates for its databases and modules from Kaspersky Lab's update servers and automatically installs and applies them.
