Kaspersky DDoS Protection, also referred to as "the System", is a software and hardware system designed to detect and filter DDoS attacks.

A DDoS attack is a distributed attack on a targeted computer system involving simultaneous, concerted attacks by a large number of computers with the goal of overloading the target computer system to the point of failure. In other words, DDoS attacks intentionally create conditions in which legitimate users of a system can no longer access or have difficulty accessing resources normally provided by that system.

An anomaly is any deviation of statistical traffic values from nominal values. An anomaly by itself is not a guaranteed sign of an attack. The nature of the anomaly must be analyzed before a specific conclusion can be reached.

A Customer administrator is a Portal user who has administrator privileges, can assign roles to other Portal users, and can create new users with the selected role.

A Protected resource is a network service of the Customer identified by an IP address that must be protected by the System.

A Customer is an organization whose network resources are either partially or completely under the protection of the System. A Customer is a consumer of functionality provided by the System.

A Collector is a software and hardware system that receives and processes traffic information from other software components of the System, including to apply filtering criteria and criteria for detecting anomalies and attacks. The purpose of a collector is to exchange traffic information and service information between all software components of the System.

A Sensor is a System component that receives information about the traffic directed at a Customer's resource and aggregates this information so that it can be provided to the Collector.

Technical Support refers to Kaspersky technical personnel who work directly with the Kaspersky DDoS Protection System, are involved in connecting new Customers and supporting existing Customers, and are tasked with repelling attacks and conducting analysis of such attacks.

A Scrubbing Center is a System component that analyzes and filters traffic passing through the Customer's network resources. It resides at an independent Kaspersky DDoS Protection site that is remotely located and physically separate from the Customer's equipment. The purpose of a Scrubbing Center is to remove parasitic traffic elements from the redirected traffic of the Customer and then deliver "clean" traffic to the Protected resources. All Scrubbing Centers are integrated into one distributed System.
