How to enable and use Web Policy Management in Kaspersky Small Office Security 6
Web Policy Management is a component of Kaspersky Small Office Security that allows you to:
- Set time restrictions on computer, Internet or application use.
- Restrict the startup of games and specific applications, as well as certain categories of applications.
- Control the transfer of users’ personal data and the contents of their messages.
You can set individual restrictions for each user account. Web Policy Management also allows you to view statistics reports on the activity of controlled users.
How to enable Web Policy Management
To enable Web Policy Management in Kaspersky Small Office Security:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Web Policy Management. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
- Before you begin, we recommend setting a password to prevent controlled users from modifying the Web Policy Management settings:
- Enter a password and click Continue.
- Select the checkboxes to determine the password scope and click Create password.
- Enter the password and click Log in.
If you decided not to create a password, click Skip. - Opposite the user account you wish to control, move the switch to the Control is enabled position.
Web Policy Management will be enabled for the user account with the default settings in place.
How to restrict computer usage
Using Web Policy Management, you can set:
- Time intervals during which access to the computer will be blocked.
- A time limit on computer use for a day.
- Breaks in computer use for a day.
How to configure restrictions on computer usage
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Web Policy Management. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
- In the Web Policy Management window, make sure that the switch opposite each user account is in the Control is enabled position. If control is not enabled, any restrictions you configure will not work.
- Below the account name, click Configure restrictions and select Computer.
- In the Weekdays and Weekends sections, set time intervals during which an employee will not be able to use the computer. You can do so in one of the following ways:
- Select the Block access from checkbox and set a time interval using the drop-down lists.
- In the top-right corner, click the calendar icon and use your mouse to highlight in red the exact times you wish to block computer access.
- Select the Allow access for no longer than checkbox and select an interval from the drop-down list. You can also use set daily time limits on computer usage for an employee.
- In the Time breaks section, select the Take a break checkbox and set the break time and frequency from the drop-down lists.
Computer usage restrictions will be set for the user account.
How to restrict the startup of games
Using Web Policy Management, you can restrict users from starting games on the computer based on their age or the type of game.
To restrict the startup of games:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Web Policy Management. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
- In the Web Policy Management window, make sure that the switch opposite each user account is in the Control is enabled position. If control is not enabled, any restrictions you configure will not work.
- Below the account name, click Configure restrictions and select Applications.
- Select the Restrict startup of games for users younger than checkbox and select an age from the drop-down list. The list of age restrictions follows the PEGI or ESRB rating systems. You can select the rating system to use from the drop-down list.
- Select the Block games from adult categories checkbox and click Select categories of games. You will be presented with various categories to choose from, depending on the rating system you selected. Clear the checkboxes besides the categories you wish to allow. The rest will be blocked. You can select the rating system to use from the drop-down list.
Restrictions on the startup of games will be set for the user account.
How to restrict the startup and use of applications
Using Web Policy Management, you can:
- Block the startup of particular applications, or applications from certain categories.
- Limit the amount of time applications may be used.
To configure restrictions on the startup and use of applications:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Web Policy Management. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
- In the Web Policy Management window, make sure that the switch opposite each user account is in the Control is enabled position. If control is not enabled, any restrictions you configure will not work.
- Below the account name, click Configure restrictions and select Applications.
- In the Restrict use of applications section, click Settings.
- Select the checkbox beside the application category you wish to block. For example, Games or Multimedia players.
- If you want to block a particular application, select an option from the drop-down list in the Usage column:
- Allow, if you don’t want to apply any usage restrictions to the application.
- Block, if you want to block all use of the application.
- Restrict, if you want to set time intervals during which the application may or may not be used. You can limit access to no more than several hours during work days or on weekends, set forced usage breaks or configure exact times when the application will be blocked. After you have configured the restrictions, click Save.
- If the application you want to restrict is not displayed in the list, click Add application and select the application’s .exe file in the window that opens. Click Open. The application will be added and you will be able to configure usage restrictions for it.
Restrictions on the startup and use of applications will be configured for the user account.
How to restrict Internet usage
Using Web Policy Management, you can:
- Restrict Internet access time.
- Ensure searches for information online are safe.
- Restrict access to websites.
- Prevent files from downloading.
To restrict Internet usage:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Web Policy Management. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
- In the Web Policy Management window, make sure that the switch opposite each user account is in the Control is enabled position. If control is not enabled, any restrictions you configure will not work.
- Below the account name, click Configure restrictions and select Internet.
- Select the Restrict access on weekdays to and Restrict access on weekends to checkboxes and choose a number of hours from the drop-down lists. In doing so, you will set a maximum time limit on Internet access for the user.
- Select the Enable Safe Search checkbox to exclude websites containing adult content from search results.
- Select the Control access to websites checkbox and choose one of the options:
- Block access to websites from selected categories. Click Select categories of websites and select the checkboxes beside the categories you want to block access to.
- Block access to all websites.
- Click Manage exclusions → Add. Enter a web address mask, specify an action, type or apply a template. Click Add. For a description of the fields, see the Online Help page.
- In the Block file downloading section, select the checkboxes beside the files you wish to prevent from being downloaded.
Internet usage restrictions will be set for the user account.
How to configure content control restrictions
Using Web Policy Management, you can:
- Prevent users’ personal data from being transferred to third parties.
- Monitor the use of keywords in messages.
To configure content control restrictions:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Web Policy Management. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
- In the Web Policy Management window, make sure that the switch opposite each user account is in the Control is enabled position. If control is not enabled, any restrictions you configure will not work.
- Below the account name, click Configure restrictions and select Content Control.
- Select the Block personal data transfer to third parties checkbox and click Edit list of personal data → Add.
- Enter a field name or select a template, then enter a value and click Add. For a description of the fields, see the Online Help page.
- In the Web Policy Management window, select the Detect use of keywords checkbox and click Edit list of keywords → Add.
- Enter a keyword or phrase and click Add.
Content control restrictions will be set for the user account.
How to view a report on the activity of controlled users
Using Web Policy Management, you can view a report on the activities of controlled users. To do so:
- In the main window of Kaspersky Small Office Security, click Web Policy Management. To learn how to open the main application window, see this article.
- Below the account name, click View report.
- Depending on the restrictions you have set, you will be shown a brief summary by section: Computer, Internet, Applications and Content Control.
- You can click Details in each section to view more detailed information.
- Select Today, Day, Week or Month and use the switch buttons if necessary.
A report on the user’s activity will open and be available for viewing.
