About license key

The license key (hereinafter also "key") is a sequence of bits that can be used to activate the Kaspersky application for further use in accordance with the terms of the End User License Agreement. A key is generated by Kaspersky.

You can add a license key to the application using one of the following methods: by applying a key file or by entering an activation code. After you add a key to the application, the license key is displayed in the user interface of the Kaspersky application as a unique alphanumeric sequence.

After adding keys, you can replace them with other keys.

Kaspersky can black-list a key over violations of the End-User License Agreement. If the key is blocked, add another license key must be added for the application to work.

The following types of license keys are available for Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 6.1 Light Agent:

• Server key – Solution license key that is used to protect virtual machines running server operating systems.
• Desktop key – Solution license key that is used to protect virtual machines running desktop operating systems.
• Key with a limitation on the number of processor cores – Solution license key for protecting virtual machines regardless of the operating system installed on them. In accordance with the license restrictions, the solution is used to protect all virtual machines that can run on hypervisors that use a certain number of physical processor cores.
• Key with a limitation on the number of processors – Solution license key for protecting virtual machines regardless of the operating system installed on them. In accordance with the license restrictions, the solution is used to protect all virtual machines that can run on hypervisors that use a certain number of processors.
• EDR Optimum key – a license key for Kaspersky EDR Optimum Add-on that activates the Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response Optimum functionality on virtual machines.

You can also activate the Kaspersky Security solution using a "Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business – Universal" license key, which is intended for Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business. This key lets you protect a certain number of virtual machines regardless of the operating system installed on them.

The "Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business - Universal" key is not available in all regions. Contact Kaspersky partner that sold you a license for information about the capability to use this key.

A license key may be active or kept as a backup.

• Active key – the license key currently being used to run the Kaspersky application. A trial license key, commercial license key (commercial key), or subscription key can be added as the active key.

  To activate components of the Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 6.1 Light Agent solution, you must add the license key to the SVM. If you are using keys with core restrictions or keys with processor restrictions, you can only add one active key of each type per SVM. If you are using server keys and desktop keys, then you can add two active keys to one SVM: a server key and a desktop key. Two keys should be added if the SVM is used in a virtual infrastructure to protect virtual machines running server operating systems and desktop operating systems.

  To activate the Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response Optimum functionality on SVMs, you must additionally add an active EDR Optimum key.

• Reserve key – a key that confirms the right to use the Kaspersky application, but is not currently being used. The reserve key automatically becomes active when the license associated with the current active key expires.

  You can only add a reserve key if an active key of the same type has been added. The active key and the reserve key must correspond to the same license type.

  In the case of Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 6.1 Light Agent, you can add several reserve keys: a reserve key for activating components of Kaspersky Security for Virtualization 6.1 Light Agent and an EDR Optimum reserve key for activating the functionality of Kaspersky Endpoint Detection and Response Optimum.

A trial license key or a subscription key can be added only as the active key. A trial license key or a subscription key cannot be added as a reserve key. A trial license key cannot replace the active commercial key.
