Guide on Kaspersky software availability in the United States

Recently, the US Department of Commerce prohibited the sale and distribution of Kaspersky software in the United States.

We believe that this decision is based on concerns over the current geopolitical climate, rather than on a technical evaluation of Kaspersky’s products and services.

To comply, we must limit the availability and functionality of our products and services for US customers. However, we will pursue all available legal options to preserve our current operations and customer relationships.

Currently, all Kaspersky solutions are operating correctly and ensuring reliable and stable protection for users, and subscriptions remain active.

We strongly advise customers to ignore speculation being circulated via untrusted sources, and to rely solely on official information provided by Kaspersky. All official information regarding solution functionality, subscriptions, and other matters can be found below.

Distribution

US customers will no longer be able to download Kaspersky apps at https://usa.kaspersky.com or my.kaspersky.com. Mobile app downloads via Google Play Store and Apple App Store will also no longer be available. The Kaspersky Protection browser extension/plugin will no longer be available for download from extension stores.

Restrictions will not affect the availability of Kaspersky solutions and ongoing product support for customers from other countries. Non-US customers may download Kaspersky apps from kaspersky.com and https://my.kaspersky.com.
The ability to buy, renew and download products at usa.kaspersky.com is suspended. The ability to make purchases via other websites may also be limited for users visiting from the US and US customers. Non-US customers may purchase and renew apps at kaspersky.com and their local websites.
Due to the US prohibition, we are forced to stop renewing Kaspersky subscriptions. All licenses will keep functioning until their original expiration date.

Operation

Starting from September 29, Kaspersky antivirus and cybersecurity products will be limited in functionality. Limitations will be implemented gradually, starting from September 10 through to September 29.

Kaspersky will be prohibited from providing product updates to US customers, including antivirus signature and codebase updates.

Security apps will be disconnected from Kaspersky Security Network, which will limit the operation of some product features. Please see below to learn more about what features are dependent on Kaspersky Security Network and will become unavailable.
Without connection to virus database updates, our antivirus security will undergo significant functional changes. Incoming data and network traffic will no longer be matched against this database of known signatures. As a result, product security will switch to heuristic analysis. Under this approach, behavior that may indicate a potential threat is monitored within a controlled environment. This takes more time than checking the signature against the virus database and provides limited protection.
Data Leak Checker (available in Kaspersky Plus and Kaspersky Premium) and Identity Theft Check (available in Kaspersky Premium) will stop checking accounts for different data leaks recorded in publicly available databases.
Game mode may be unable to prevent automatic updates and scans when playing newly released games.
Do not Disturb mode may be unable to prevent display of notifications and prompts during presentations, video calls, media streaming, and when working with apps for office work and studying.
Kaspersky app will no longer receive information about brand-new apps that may be classified as Stalkerware, and will not warn the user about them. More information about Stalkerware is available here: https://support.kaspersky.com/help/Kaspersky/Win21.7/en-US/222844.htm.
Safe Money feature will stop receiving updates. This may lead to the following errors when entering the Protected Browser mode, even for trusted websites:
- “Certificate verification problem” error with an option to continue browsing
- “There is a problem checking the certificate for HTTPS connections”
- Amber frame will appear around the browser window while using trusted banking websites through Safe Money
Most Kaspersky Password Manager features will keep functioning normally on all devices. Users can still create and manage their passwords and sync them across devices, as well as access their password vault, etc. However, the Password Check feature will no longer inform you if a password has been compromised.

The Kaspersky Password Manager browser extension/plugin will no longer be available for download from extension stores.
Most Kaspersky Safe Kids features will keep functioning normally on all devices. However, some limitations will apply: new websites and apps appearing on the Internet will not be categorized as unsuitable for your child by default, instead requiring manual parental approval or rejection.
After September 10th, US customers will not be able to update databases in installation packages of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Windows. If US customers try to update the databases after September 10th, the installation of such a package will fail.
