Error 1303 or “Unknown error” when installing a Kaspersky application

Issue

When installing a Kaspersky application, you can encounter the error message “You have insufficient privileges to access this folder: <folder name>” or “Unknown error”.

Solution

  1. Run the system check using Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool.

If the tool does not start, change the file name and run it once again. If the issue persists, check the system using Kaspersky Rescue Disk according to the instructions.

  1. Wait until the tool completes its work.
  2. Open the command line as administrator using the instructions.
  3. Run the following commands one by one:
    secedit /configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose
    icacls %ProgramData% /T /Q /C /reset
    takeown.exe /f "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp" /r /d y
    icacls "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Temp" /T /Q /C /reset
    takeown.exe /f "C:\Program Files (x86)" /r /d y
    icacls.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)" /reset /T
  4. Close the command line.
  5. Go to the C:\ drive and enable the display of hidden folders according to the instructions.
  6. Open the hidden folder C:\ProgramData\ and delete the folder Kaspersky Lab Setup Files and the file Kaspersky Lab Setup Files, if any.
  7. Restart your PC.
  8. Reinstall the Kaspersky application.
