Kaspersky Small Office Security 4 for Personal Computer features the Idle Scan option. It is designed for optimization of the computer resources use. In the Idle Scan mode, all resource-intensive tasks are performed only when the computer is idle (when it is locked by the user or when a screen saver is active for five minutes).

The Idle Scan option includes the following tasks:

  • Automatic update of antivirus databases and application modules
  • Scan of system memory, startup objects, and system registry.

Scanning for viruses and vulnerabilities is one of the most important tasks for ensuring the computer safety. Virus scan detects spreading of malicious code that was not detected by the protection system. Vulnerability Scan detects software vulnerabilities that can be used by malefactors for spreading malware and accessing personal information.

When your computer is battery-powered, Idle Scan will not be performed even if the computer is idle.
