Backup and Restore in Kaspersky Security Cloud

Data stored on a computer can be lost or damaged due to various issues, for example, virus infection, software or hardware problems, or even accidental removal. To protect your data, we recommend that you regularly run backup.
If you want to create a backup storage on the My Book (Western Digital) drive, format the drive to the NTFS file system before creating the backup task.
How to create a backup copy on a local drive or removable media
- In the main window of Kaspersky Security Cloud, click More Tools.
- For a guide on opening the application window, see this guide.
- Click Backup and Restore.
- In the Backup and Restore view, click Select files for backup.
- Select files to backup.
- Create backup copies of specified file types:
- All files from My Documents folder and from desktop
- All pictures and photos
- All movies and videos
- All music files
- Create backup copies of files from specified folders
- Create backup copies of specified file types:
- To view the list of files of a certain category, click the link with the number of files under the category title. Click Next.
- To add specific folders, click Add folder. In the Select folder to backup window, specify the folder or a file. Click OK.
Click Next.
- Select the backup storage on a local drive or removable media. If the storage is missing from the list, add it: click Connect existing storage under the list of available storage options.
Select the check box Use advanced storage settings if you want to set the number of backup copies and backup task schedule. - Click Next.
We recommend that you store your backup on an external hard drive or in an online storage. If you hard drive malfunctions or gets encrypted by malware, the backup copy located on the local drive may be lost.
- Set the schedule by selecting the time period from the list. If you have selected a removable media as a backup storage, select the check box Run backup on connecting the removable drive.
Click Next.
- Copy the Restore Utility to the storage so that you will be able to restore files from it on a computer where Kaspersky Security Cloud is not installed. This option is only available when you create a storage on a removable media. Click Register now.
- Set a password to protect the files in the storage. This option is only available when you create a storage on a removable media. Click Next.
- Adjust the storage settings:
- Set the number of versions of backup copies to store.
- Set the storage period for versions of backup copies.
- Enter the name for the backup task and, if necessary, select or clear the check box Run backup upon wizard completion.
Click Next.
- Wait for the storage to prepare and click Finish.
- Upon wizard completion, the task will appear in the Backup and Restore window.
How to create a backup copy in an online storage
- In the main window of Kaspersky Security Cloud, click More Tools.

- Select the files for backup:

If you already have a set of files for backup, click Create backup copies for other files.

If you are creating a backup for the first time, click Select files for backup.

- Select files for backup using categories or manually. Click Next.
- Select Online storage and click Activate.
- Sign in to your Dropbox account.
- If you do not have a Dropbox account, create it by clicking the corresponding link.
- Allow access to Dropbox for a Kaspersky application.
- The notification on successful connection will appear. Click Close.
- Return to the Kaspersky Security Cloud window and click Online storage. Click Next.
- Set the schedule by selecting the time period from the list.
- Enter the name for the new task and, if necessary, select or clear the check box Run backup upon wizard completion. Click Next.
- Wait for the storage to prepare and click Finish.
- Click Run to create backup copies of selected files.
What to do in case of storage activation issues
If online storage activation fails or other problems appear, do the following:
- Check if your computer has an access to the Internet. To do it, try to open the Kaspersky website in the Internet Explorer web browser. If you have no access to the Internet, contact your Internet service provider for additional information. Once the Internet access is restored, try to activate the storage once again.
- Submit a request to Kaspersky Customer Service by choosing the topic of your request. Attach the screenshots of an error (if it appears) to you request.
