Web Access: redirecting USB devices to a remote environment

You can redirect printers, scanners, webcams, and USB drives to a remote environment deployed in a Citrix Workspace infrastructure. Webcam redirection does not require additional configuration in the remote environment.

No more than two USB devices can be redirected at the same time.

To redirect a printer or scanner to a remote environment:

  1. Connect the device to the thin client via the USB connector.
  2. If you are connecting a scanner, manually specify the device type under Settings -> Unrecognized USB devices.
  3. Connect to a remote environment in the Web Access application.
  4. Expand the Citrix Workspace control panel at the top of the window and click the USB Devices button.

You will see a window prompting you to redirect the USB device.

  5. Click Add.

You will see a window showing a list of devices available for redirection.

  6. If the relevant device does not appear in the list, try restarting the remote session without removing the USB device.
  7. Select the relevant device in the list and click Connect.

The device will be redirected to the remote environment. You can now use it in a remote desktop.

If you need to redirect multiple devices, repeat steps 4–6 of these instructions for each of them.

For more information about redirection of USB devices, please refer to the Citrix Workspace product documentation.

You can also redirect USB drives to the remote environment and then safely remove them. Redirection uses Client Drive Mapping technology. For more details, please refer to the Citrix Workspace product documentation.

Kaspersky Thin Client supports safe removal of USB drives in a remote session. To avoid damage to the data stored on the device, eject the device according to the instructions below.

To safely eject a USB drive in a remote session:

  1. Connect to a remote environment in the Web Access application.
  2. Restore the connection panel and click the Eject USB drive toolbar button.

You will see a list of USB devices that have been redirected to the remote environment.

  3. Select the relevant device or click Eject all USB drives.
  4. If there is a problem encountered with safe removal, an error message is displayed. Close all windows on the remote desktop and terminate the copying processes, then try again.

The device is now ready to be safely removed and you can physically disconnect it from the thin client.
