Safe Money, a Kaspersky Internet Security 2015 component, verifies authenticity of websites by ensuring that the digital certificate that is used to establish a secure connection corresponds to the address of the requested website.

When verifying a certificate, the Safe Money component may display the error message: "The certificate obtained when establishing secure connection does not match the original certificate". This may occur due to a variety of reasons.

  • Revoked certificate:
    • Certificate or its signature has been revoked.
    • The certificate revocation status is unknown.
  • Fake certificate:
    • Illegal certificate.
  • Certificate chain is broken:
    • The chain consists of one self-signed certificate.
    • The chain does not end with a trusted root certificate.
    • The chain contains certificates that are not meant to sign other certificates.
    • Root or intermediate certificate has expired or its time has not come yet.
    • The chain cannot be built.
  • The domain specified in the certificate does not match the website to which connection is established.
  • Detected certificate usage violations:
    • The certificate is not meant to confirm the node authenticity.
    • Certificate usage violations detected.
  • Certificate time violation:
    • The certificate's validity period has expired.
    • The certificate's validity period has not come.
  • Certificate structure is broken:
    • The certificate's structure is invalid.
    • Signature verification error.

Kaspersky Lab engineers recommend that you not trust websites that cause the Invalid Certificate error.

If the error occurs when opening a website in Mozilla Firefox, try using a different web browser (for example, Internet Explorer).
