Viruses are often hidden by embedding in compound files, such as embedded OLE-objects and archives.

Installation packets and embedded OLE-objects are started immediately upon opening which makes them even more dangerous than archives. To detect viruses that are hidden in a compound file, a compound file should be unpacked, which can significantly lower the scan speed.

In File Anti-Virus in Kaspersky Internet Security 2013 (beginning from version MP1) scan of archives is always disabled, even if the settings are imported from a previous Kaspersky Internet Security version.

An archive can be scanned as any other file: for this right-click the necessary archive and from the context menu select Scan for viruses. You can also configure to scan archives in scan tasks.
