How to configure Trusted applications in Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012

The Trusted zone is a list of objects that are excluded from scan scope of Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012. You can form the trusted zone by adding applications to the trusted applications list and exclusions rules.

When you add an application to the trusted applications list, Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012 stops monitoring file and network application activities as well as registry prompts. An .exe file of an application from the trusted zone is still scanned for viruses. If you want to disable an application scan at all, create an exclusion rule for this application.

When an application is added to the trusted zone:

  • Files opened by the application are not scanned
  • Application activity is not monitored
  • Child applications activity is not monitored
  • Application network traffic is not scanned

How to create a rule for a trusted application:

  1. Open the main application window.
  2. In the upper right corner of the main application window, click Settings.

  1. In the upper left part of the Settings window, switch to the Advanced Settings tab.
  2. In the left frame of the Settings window, select Threats and exclusions.
  3. In the right frame of the Settings window, click Settings in the Exclusions section.

  1. In the Trusted Zone window, switch to the Trusted applications tab.
  2. In the Trusted Zone window, click Add.
  3. Select an executable file of the trusted application via Browse or Applications (running applications are displayed).

  1. In the Exclusions for application window, select the settings for the trusted application:
    • Do not scan opened files option excludes all files the trusted application processes from the scan.
    • Do not monitor application activity option excludes any activity that the trusted application performs from Proactive Defense monitoring.
    • Do not monitor child application activity option excludes any activity child applications of the trusted application perform from Proactive Defense monitoring.
    • Do not scan network traffic option excludes network traffic of a trusted application from scans for viruses and spam. To exclude all the application’s network traffic, click the all link. To exclude the encrypted traffic (SSL/TSL) from the scan, click all so that it changes to encrypted. It will change to encrypted. You can restrict the exclusion by assigning a remote host and port. To create a restriction, click any, which will change to selected, and enter a value for the remote port and host.
  2. Click OK in the Exclusions for application window.
  3. Click OK in the Trusted Zone window.
  4. Click OK in the Settings window.
  5. Close the main application window.

Please note: by default, the file %SystemRoot%\system32\svchost.exe (executable file of the system process Microsoft Windows Update Protected) is added to trusted applications with the Do not scan encrypted network traffic parameter. Traffic of this service cannot be scanned by any anti-virus software. Without an exclusion rule for this file, the work of the service will be stopped with an error.
