If you receive the message “Could not enable some protection components” or “An update error has occurred” in a Kaspersky Lab product (for example, after installing the product or updating your operating system), it means an error has occurred.

To fix this problem, reinstall the application:

  1. Download the installer from the Kaspersky Lab website.
  2. Save the activation code to a removable drive.
  3. Remove the application. If you are not sure how to remove the application, see this guide.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Run the installer that you just downloaded and follow the installation instructions for Kaspersky Internet Security 2018Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2018Kaspersky Total Security 2018Kaspersky Small Office Security 5 PC or Kaspersky Small Office Security 5 FS.
  6. Activate the application. For instructions on activating the application, see the guide for Kaspersky Internet Security 2018Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2018Kaspersky Total Security 2018Kaspersky Small Office Security 5 PC or Kaspersky Small Office Security 5 FS.

If the error persists, submit a request to Kasperky Lab Technical Support via the My Kaspersky portal, and include a detailed description of the issue.

For instructions on how to use My Kaspersky, see the Online help page.
