The anti-malware database can be damaged if connectivity issues occur while Kaspersky Scan Engine is downloading updates. For this reason, Kaspersky Scan Engine has a mechanism of automatic database recovery.

You can configure backup in the following ways:

  • Use the Back up the anti-virus database toggle switch in Kaspersky Scan Engine GUI. To enable backup, turn on this toggle switch.
  • Specify the DisableBackup parameter in the kavhttpd.xml configuration file (HTTP mode). To enable backup, set this parameter to 0.
  • Specify the DisableBackup parameter in the kavicapd.xml configuration file (ICAP mode). To enable backup, set this parameter to 0.

Make sure that your hard disk has enough free space for a full copy of the database.

If KAV Engine cannot start with a newly updated database, Kaspersky Scan Engine automatically restores the previous version of the database from the backup copy during the next initialization.

After the database recovery is completed, Kaspersky Scan Engine deletes the backup copy. If no backup copy is found, Kaspersky Scan Engine tries to initialize with the current database.

When connectivity issues are resolved, try to update again.
