About application deployment using a distributed model

Kaspersky Anti-Virus deployment using a distributed model involves installing the application on several Lotus Domino servers. In this case, all deployed instances of Kaspersky Anti-Virus represent a single distributed system. The distributed deployment model is recommended in the following cases:

  • The enterprise network includes several Lotus Domino servers, including clustered servers. In this case, Kaspersky Anti-Virus has to be installed on each server.

    A partitioned server configuration is not supported.

  • A constant connection is established among Lotus Domino servers on an enterprise network.
  • There are no network traffic limitations on the volume of data transmitted and data speed.
  • Enough disk space has been allocated for the Lotus Domino server database directory.

After deploying Kaspersky Anti-Virus using the distributed model, you can:

  • centrally manage the protection settings and primary tasks of Kaspersky Anti-Virus on all protected Lotus Domino servers;
  • access application settings and the Event log and statistics and Quarantine databases from any Lotus Domino server;
  • manage the protection settings and permissions of functional user groups at the level of server groups;
  • automatically scale up or down the configuration of the enterprise network when adding a new protected Lotus Domino server to the distributed model or removing a server from the list of protected servers.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus is installed separately on each server on the enterprise network. Primary installation of the application is performed first. The server on which the application is first installed is called the primary installation server. Kaspersky Anti-Virus is then installed on all additional servers.

If the Lotus Domino network uses a star topology for replications, it is recommended that the central hub server be selected as the primary installation server.

The Kaspersky Anti-Virus databases are created on the primary installation server. After installation on additional servers, the application configuration and databases are successively replicated on the additional servers. During installation of each subsequent additional server, any of the servers on which Kaspersky Anti-Virus is already installed can be selected as the primary installation server.

We recommend placing only one Kaspersky Anti-Virus database replica on each of the protected Lotus Domino servers. Satisfying this condition makes it possible to avoid application failures and data loss.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus can be installed either through the Lotus Notes client or a web browser. The installation process does not depend on the chosen method or the operating system installed on the Lotus Domino server. However, the preparing to install and getting started stages differ depending on the installation method.

In order to successfully start remote installation of the application via a web browser, the HTTP task must be started on the Lotus Domino server from which the application is to be installed on other servers.
