How to set up VPN in third-party clients
The availability of this functionality depends on the terms of your subscription.
You can use Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection on any of your devices if there is no Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection app for it, or if you want to use third-party clients.
Third-party clients are built-in or can be installed on Wi-Fi routers to protect all your devices at once. You can also set up Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection via third-party clients on smart TVs, or any other device on Windows, Android, iOS, macOS, and Linux.
To set up a third-party client, export a VPN configuration file on My Kaspersky. This file contains connection credentials to import to the device where you want to set up VPN.
At present, you can use Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection via OpenVPN or WireGuard protocol on one device.
How to set up an OpenVPN client
To export an OpenVPN configuration file with connection credentials:
- Go to the VPN tab.
In the VPN for routers section, click Add new configuration.
- Select OpenVPN and click Continue.
The list of virtual server locations opens.
- Select a virtual server location and click Continue.
A page with connection credentials opens.
- Copy and save the credentials.
- Click Download OVPN file.
Use the downloaded OVPN file and copied credentials to set up OpenVPN on your device according to instructions for your device.
How to set up the OpenVPN Connect app on an Android device
To use Kaspersky VPN Secure Connection in the OpenVPN Connect app:
- Install OpenVPN Connect on your device.
- Open OpenVPN Connect and go to Menu → Import profile → File.
- Specify the path to the OVPN file you downloaded from My Kaspersky.
- Enter the credentials you copied from My Kaspersky.
- Tap Add to save the connection settings.
- Switch on the connection toggle to turn on the VPN connection.
How to set up a WireGuard client
To export a WireGuard configuration file:
- Go to the VPN tab.
In the VPN for routers section, click Add new configuration.
- Select WireGuard and click Continue.
The list of virtual server locations opens.
- Select a virtual server location and click Continue.
- Enter a public key generated in a third-party service, or click Generate keys to generate a new public key, then click Continue.
If you generated a key pair (public and private key) manually in a third-party service, enter the private key in the next step.
- Click Download CONF file.
If you generated a key pair in a third-party service, open the downloaded CONF file in a text editor and replace the string "WRITE_YOUR_PRIVATE_KEY_HERE" with the value of your private key.
Use the downloaded CONF file to set up WireGuard on your device according to instructions for your device.
